India's sugar production has witnessed a significant surge in the current season, reaching 12.85 lakh tonnes. This marks a substantial increase from the 3.20 lakh tonnes produced by the corresponding date in the previous year, representing a growth of over 300%.

The Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA) reported that 184 sugar mills have begun their operations for the current season. This early commencement and robust production figures suggest a promising outlook for the sugar industry.

The increased output is attributed to favourable weather conditions and timely sowing in key sugarcane-producing regions. Higher production could potentially lead to increased availability of sugar in the domestic market and may impact export dynamics.
