Milky Mist Dairy Files for ₹1,553 Crore IPO to Expand Capacity and Cut Debt

South India’s dairy major Milky Mist is set to enter the primary market with a ₹1,553 crore IPO. The company plans to use the proceeds to fund capital expenditure and strengthen its balance sheet by reducing debt.

Milky Mist Dairy Food, a prominent player in the Indian value-added dairy segment, is preparing for a significant stock market debut. The company has outlined plans for an Initial Public Offering (IPO) totaling ₹1,553 crore, aiming to capitalize on its strong market position in the organized dairy sector.

IPO Structure and Fund Utilization

The proposed public issue consists of two main components. The company seeks to raise ₹1,428 crore through a fresh issue of shares, which will directly infuse capital into the business. Additionally, there is an Offer for Sale (OFS) component worth ₹125 crore, where existing shareholders will divest a portion of their holdings. According to the draft documents, the primary objectives of the fundraise are to finance upcoming capital expenditure (Capex) requirements and to repay existing debt, which is expected to improve the company's overall financial health.

Market Position and Financial Performance

Milky Mist has carved a niche for itself by focusing on value-added products rather than just liquid milk. It currently holds a leading position in the organized paneer and cheese markets in India. Financial data indicates that the company has maintained a robust revenue growth trajectory. Notably, its profit margins have consistently outperformed several of its industry peers, making it a watched candidate for investors seeking exposure to the FMCG and dairy sectors.

What This Means for Investors

The dairy industry in India is shifting rapidly from unorganized to organized players, with a growing consumer preference for branded dairy products like yogurt, cheese, and butter. Milky Mist’s focus on high-margin products positions it differently from traditional cooperatives. However, potential investors should note that the dairy business is capital-intensive and subject to fluctuations in raw milk procurement prices. The company’s move to reduce debt through IPO proceeds is seen as a strategic step to lower interest costs and boost future net profits.
