Section 80C of the Income Tax Act lets you reduce your taxable income by up to ₹1.5 lakh a year through eligible investments and expenses (under the old regime). This calculator shows the tax you can save based on your investment and tax slab.
How this calculator works
Enter your eligible 80C investment (up to ₹1.5 lakh) and your income tax slab. The calculator shows the tax you save — simply your investment multiplied by your marginal tax rate.
The formula
Tax Saved = 80C Investment × Marginal Tax Rate- 80C Investment
- = Amount invested in eligible instruments (max ₹1.5 lakh)
- Marginal Tax Rate
- = Your highest income tax slab (5% / 20% / 30%)
Applicable under the OLD tax regime. The new regime has lower slabs but does not allow most 80C deductions.
Worked example
Example: ₹1,50,000 invested, 30% slab
80C investment₹1,50,000
Tax slab30%
You save ₹45,000 in income tax (plus applicable cess) for the year.
Key benefits
- Reduces your taxable income legally
- Encourages long-term saving (ELSS, PPF, EPF, NSC)
- ELSS also offers equity growth with the shortest 80C lock-in (3 years)
- Combines wealth-building with tax efficiency
Smart tips
- ELSS funds give the best growth potential among 80C options with a 3-year lock-in
- EPF and life-insurance premiums often already fill part of your 80C limit
- Don't over-invest just to save tax — align with goals
- Compare old vs new regime; 80C only helps under the old regime
